I became motivated to lose weight when I went to Disney with my family and had to rent a scooter every day to get around. I was out of breath and my legs hurt so bad I couldn't keep up. That was the clincher for me.
After that time, I was at my doctors’ for a regular visit. While waiting to be called for my appointment, I started reading the brochures on The Center for Medical Weight Loss (CMWL) in the waiting room. I discussed CMWL with Dr. Pinto and set up a consultation right away. Dr. Pinto was very knowledgeable about the program and explained everything to me. I signed up the same day.
Before CMWL, I’d tried Jenny Craig and Nutrisystem. I never finished either one, and gained back all the weight I had lost. The CMWL program has helped me lose more weight than I ever have before.
Betty’s Weight Loss Journey
I started in September 2010. It was very hard the first couple of weeks. I was hungry all the time and sometimes I felt sick in the stomach. I kept thinking about that next Disney trip and just took everything day-by-day and worked through it. It became easier and easier as the days passed.
It helped that CMWL gave me the right amount of calories to make me feel full and content, so I wouldn't want to cheat. I learned that exercise helps burn calories and the weight started coming off.
My biggest challenge was pasta. I’m Italian, and we love our pasta. My doctor taught me not to ever deprive myself – that if I really wanted the pasta, to have it, but to practice portion control.
Best Parts About Losing the Weight
My health is so much better. I’m not taking any blood pressure or cholesterol medicine at all. I walk 3 to 4 miles per day without getting out of breath. I really like all the compliments that I get from everyone – especially my husband, who tells me how good I look all the time.
To keep off the weight long-term, I plan on staying on the program until I reach my goal and then using all the tools I have learned about weight loss and exercising to keep it off.
My best advice to others is to take the program day-by-day. If you have a slip, just go on from there. Remember, if you really want to lose the weight, it will happen – faster than you think. I never thought when I started that I would have gotten this far. It’s made me a stronger person.
